Delta Commences Digital Birth, Death Registration

Delta State has commenced the nationwide digital birth and death registration exercise under the Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (E-CRVS) system as part of activities marking the 2026 World Population Day.

The Honourable Federal Commissioner representing Delta State at the National Population Commission (NPC), Hon. Mrs. Blessyn Brume-Ataguba, announced the commencement of the initiative at the Commission’s office on Maryam Babangida Way, Asaba. She said the digital registration system, introduced in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) programme, is designed to make birth and death registration faster, more efficient, and easily accessible across Delta State and Nigeria.

Brume-Ataguba noted that millions of births in Nigeria remain unregistered each year despite an estimated five million births annually. She disclosed that the NPC currently operates 4,011 registration centres nationwide, with plans to expand the number to 8,000, while the VitalReg platform has modernised birth and death documentation for Nigerians both at home and abroad.

Speaking on the 2026 World Population Day theme, “Realizing the Hopes and Aspirations of Young People – Today and for the Future,” the Commissioner stressed the need to invest in young people, describing Delta’s youthful population as a major driver of innovation, entrepreneurship, technological advancement, and economic growth.

She also commended the Delta State Government, local government councils, healthcare institutions, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and development partners for their continued support of the Commission’s initiatives.
