Oborevwori, Sanwo-Olu, monarchs grace Olu of Warri’s 5th coronation anniversary

Governors, traditional rulers, ministers, political leaders and captains of industry on Thursday converged on Warri, Delta State, for the fifth coronation anniversary of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III.

The celebration, held at the Aghofen in Ajamimogha, Warri South Local Government Area, attracted Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his Lagos counterpart, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as well as the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Arts, Hannatu Musawa.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, was represented, while the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, Senator Joel Onowakpo-Thomas and other political leaders also attended.

Traditional rulers at the ceremony included the Alaafin of Oyo, Akeem Abimbola Owoade I; the Oni of Ife, Ojaja II, represented by his wife, Olori Temitope Ogunwusi; the Ovie of Agbarha-Warri, Igbi II; Amakosu of Ogbe-Ijoh Warri, Monbene III; the Asagba of Asaba, the Dein of Agbor, the Oba of Elegushi and the Olowo of Owo, among others.

Responding to the outpouring of goodwill, the Olu said he was “overwhelmed” by the support and prayers of guests, attributing the progress recorded under his reign to God.

Governor Oborevwori described the Olu as a “unique leader with uncommon leadership abilities,” adding that he was “a cerebral monarch, bridge builder, exemplary leader, a man of grace.”

The governor also commended the monarch for his support for his administration and recalled the Olu’s participation in the inspection of the Ode-Itsekiri Road.

The event also featured homage-paying by Itsekiri sons and daughters from Nigeria and the diaspora, as well as cultural performances by various Itsekiri groups.
