Delta Goes Digital on Crime as Biometric Crime-Fighting Biometric Database Nears Completion

Delta State’s drive to modernise its security and criminal justice system is nearing another milestone, with the state’s biometric-based criminal database reported to be close to completion.

Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, said the system is expected to strengthen crime detection, improve access to criminal intelligence and support more effective law enforcement across the state.

The development builds on the state’s earlier investment in a dedicated criminal database facility and investigation room at the Delta State Police Command headquarters in Asaba. The facility was designed to improve intelligence gathering, record management and the conduct of investigations in line with the state’s Administration of Criminal Justice Law.

Ohwovoriole also linked the security reforms to Delta’s economic ambitions, arguing that a safer environment would help create greater confidence among businesses and potential investors.

The initiative is therefore being positioned not only as a policing upgrade but as part of the wider effort to make Delta safer, more secure and more attractive for investment.
