Delta Govt Moves to Boost Power Supply, Expand Transmission Network Across State

The Delta State Government has commenced discussions with Dexteron Engineering Limited on measures to fast-track the expansion of the state’s electricity transmission network and improve power supply to communities and businesses.

The State Commissioner for Energy, Michael Anoka, disclosed this during a high-level meeting with the management of Dexteron Engineering Limited on Thursday in Asaba.

Anoka said the discussions focused on practical steps to accelerate power evacuation, increase transmission capacity, and ensure a more stable electricity supply across the state.

He also reviewed progress on the ongoing transmission project in Kwale, expressing confidence that its completion would significantly improve electricity supply despite regulatory and procurement challenges encountered during implementation.

The commissioner said the state government remained committed to partnering with experienced and technically competent firms to deliver modern electricity infrastructure capable of meeting Delta’s growing energy demands.

According to him, expanding the state’s transmission network would attract new investments, stimulate industrial activities, create employment opportunities, and improve electricity access for residents in both urban and rural communities.

As part of efforts to advance the project, Anoka requested Dexteron Engineering Limited to submit a detailed proposal outlining the estimated project cost, implementation timeline, engineering specifications, and other critical technical requirements.

Speaking at the meeting, the Head of Operations of Dexteron Engineering Limited, Agbanuji David, highlighted the company’s experience in the power sector, noting that it had successfully delivered more than 2,500 kilometres of transmission line projects across Nigeria.

David added that the company’s transmission towers had undergone rigorous international testing and complied with global standards, ensuring durability, operational efficiency, and long-term reliability.

The meeting was attended by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Byron Unini; the Director of Electricity Power Supply, Stanley Efenudu; and other officials.
