The victims, Comrade Nnamdi Memeh, Chairman of NULGE, Ika North East Local Government Area, and Comrade Emmanuel Jolly Nwama, Chairman of NULGE, Ika South Local Government Area, reportedly lost their lives in the crash at Owa-Oyibu on Tuesday.
The tragic incident was confirmed by the Delta State President of NULGE, Comrade Ogberetitinor Obatarhe, who declared a three-day mourning period across all Local Government Councils in the state from Wednesday, July 22, to Friday, July 24, 2026.
In a statement, Obatarhe described the deaths as “untimely and tragic,” saying the two union leaders died in a ghastly motor accident while in active service to the union.
He directed all NULGE members across the state to wear black attire or black armbands as a mark of respect, while union flags at all Local Government Councils are to be flown at half-mast throughout the mourning period.
The union leadership also commiserated with the families of the deceased and the Ika North East and Ika South branches, praying for the repose of their souls and the strength for their loved ones to bear the loss.
