Delta NUJ Gets 18-Seater Bus as Governor Backs Journalists’ Mobility, Field Reporting

Journalists in Delta State have received a major boost in mobility after Governor Sheriff Oborevwori handed over an 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus to the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

The vehicle was presented to NUJ Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, in Asaba by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon.

The donation is expected to ease transportation challenges for journalists, particularly when covering assignments across the state, while improving the NUJ’s capacity to coordinate activities involving its members.

Ahon described the media as a critical part of society, noting its responsibility to keep citizens informed, scrutinise public institutions and report issues that shape development.

For the NUJ, the gesture goes beyond providing a vehicle. Oyowe described it as practical support for journalists who routinely travel across Delta to gather and report news.

He also acknowledged the contributions of Ahon, Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, and Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, towards the provision of the bus.

Oyowe further commended the ongoing installation of solar power at the NUJ secretariat in Asaba, while urging the state government to sustain initiatives that improve the working environment for journalists.

The NUJ chairman said the new bus would strengthen the union’s ability to support members in the field and facilitate wider coverage of events across Delta State.
