INEC Announces August 21-25 for Primaries, Sept 19 for Elections in Restored Constituencies

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restored three previously suppressed State House of Assembly Constituencies in Delta State, clearing the way for residents of the area to elect a representative in the State House of Assembly.

The commission restored Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II State Constituencies in Delta, alongside Yagba West II in Kogi State.

INEC announced the development in a statement issued on August 14, 2026, explaining that the decision followed court judgments ordering the restoration of the constituencies.

The return of the constituencies is expected to rekindle political activity in the affected areas, with residents set to regain representation in their respective State Houses of Assembly.

Meanwhile, INEC has fixed August 21 to 25, 2026, for political parties to conduct primaries for bye-elections in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State, Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies of Bauchi State, Udu State Constituency in Delta State, and Dawakin Kudu Constituency in Kano State.

The bye-elections have been scheduled for September 19, 2026.

The commission said its recently released timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections would also apply to the restored constituencies.

INEC urged political parties intending to participate in the elections to submit notices of their primaries ahead of the scheduled dates.

The electoral body said the measures were part of its commitment to ensuring credible, inclusive and transparent elections.
