Oborevwori Advocates Leadership Development as Path to Stronger Democracy

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has identified leadership development as a practical solution to Nigeria’s governance challenges, stressing that investing in competent and ethical leaders is key to strengthening democracy.
Speaking through the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, at the inaugural Professor Sam Oyovbaire Public Service Lecture at Southern Delta University, Orerokpe, on Thursday, the governor said the country’s democratic institutions require visionary and patriotic leaders to function effectively.
He said the lecture theme, “Federal Statecraft without Crafters: The Nigerian Predicament,” highlights the need to deliberately nurture leaders who possess integrity, competence and a commitment to the public good.
According to him, universities and public intellectual platforms such as the Oyovbaire Lecture provide an avenue for generating ideas, shaping future leaders and promoting evidence-based solutions to Nigeria’s governance problems.
Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to good governance and inclusive development through the M.O.R.E. Agenda, saying purposeful leadership and prudent resource management remain essential for sustainable progress.
He urged participants to move beyond discussions by translating the recommendations from the lecture into practical policies and actions that would deepen democracy and accelerate national development.
The event was attended by the Orodje Of Okpe Kingdom, His Majesty, Orhue I, the Vice Chancellor of SDU among other dignitaries.
