CAF Slams Senegal, Morocco With Heavy Sanctions After AFCON Final

Following the tense AFCON 2025 final in Rabat, the Confederation of African Football has concluded disciplinary actions against Senegal and Morocco over incidents that marred the match.

Senegal suffered the heaviest sanctions, with head coach Pape Bouna Thiaw banned for five matches and fined USD 100,000. Players Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr were also suspended, while the Senegalese FA was hit with fines totaling USD 615,000.

Morocco was not spared, as Achraf Hakimi and Ismaël Saibari received suspensions and financial penalties. The Moroccan FA was fined USD 315,000 for a range of offences involving team officials, ball boys, and supporters.

CAF also dismissed Morocco’s formal complaint against Senegal, stressing that the sanctions send a strong signal on discipline, respect for officials, and sportsmanship in African football.
