DOU Investigates Alleged Sex-for-Grades Scandal Involving Lecturer

Dennis Osadebay University (DOU), Asaba, has opened an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct involving a lecturer in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Mr. Collins Ojoh.

The development followed the circulation of a video on social media purportedly showing the lecturer being confronted by a group of students at a hotel.

According to accounts circulating online, the lecturer allegedly invited a female student to the hotel and demanded sexual favours in exchange for academic marks. The student reportedly informed friends, who subsequently confronted the lecturer at the location.

The students were said to have questioned him about the alleged demand, recorded the encounter and, during the confrontation, made him dance.

However, the circumstances surrounding the incident and the allegations remain subject to investigation and have not been independently established.

The university’s Registrar, Mrs. Nweke, confirmed on Friday that an investigation had commenced following a directive from the Vice-Chancellor.

She said the Vice-Chancellor had instructed the institution’s Chief Security Officer to investigate the matter, stressing that the university would follow due process in handling the allegations.

The video has generated significant reactions online, with calls for a thorough investigation and appropriate action if the allegations are established.

Attempts to obtain a response from Ojoh were unsuccessful as his telephone line was reportedly switched off.

The university is yet to announce the outcome of the investigation.
