EFCC Freezes Osun Govt Salary Account Days Before Gubernatorial Election

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly frozen an Osun State Government account domiciled with First Bank, just 10 days before the state’s governorship election.

According to reports, the account, which is said to be used for the payment of workers’ salaries, was placed on a “Post No Debit” restriction by the anti-graft agency.

The development comes shortly after Governor Ademola Adeleke alleged that the EFCC was planning to freeze the state’s accounts and those of some top government officials.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the governor described the move as an attempt to disrupt government activities ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

A source close to the state government confirmed that the account had already been frozen, adding that Governor Adeleke is expected to brief the public on the situation. However, the EFCC has yet to issue an official statement, while the reason for the account restriction remains unclear.
