INEC Begins Restoration of Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II Constituencies Ahead of 2027 Polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the implementation of a Federal High Court judgment restoring the previously suppressed State Constituencies of Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II in Delta State.

The process began with a stakeholders’ meeting at the Commission’s state office in Asaba, bringing together key officials and representatives of the affected constituencies.

Ahead of the engagement, INEC’s Administrative Secretary in Delta State, Mr. Davis O. Eidred, had invited stakeholders, including the Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area, Prince Godwin Ogorugba, to participate in discussions on the implementation of the court ruling.

At the meeting, the Commission reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the judgment in line with its constitutional and legal responsibilities.

A key outcome of the meeting was the inauguration of a technical team tasked with determining the GPS coordinates and boundary details of the restored constituencies. The team has been deployed to the affected areas and given 48 hours to submit its report to enable INEC proceed with the next phase of the implementation.

Legal representatives of the affected constituencies also reaffirmed the validity of the court ruling and pledged to work with the Commission to ensure a smooth implementation process.

Once all statutory and administrative procedures are completed, the restored constituencies are expected to participate in the 2027 general election, marking a major step towards restoring legislative representation for the people of Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II.
