Delta Approves Grade Level 17 Career Progression for Graduate Primary School Teachers

Graduate teachers in Delta State’s public primary schools are set to advance to Grade Level 17 from Grade Level 14 following the ratification by the State Local Government Joint Account Committee (JAC).

The decision was endorsed at a JAC meeting in Asaba attended by representatives of the Ministry of Primary Education, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the Directorate of Local Government Affairs, local government chairmen and other stakeholders.

Commissioner for Primary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu, said the development recognises the contributions of graduate teachers and is expected to improve career prospects, strengthen teacher welfare and make public primary schools more attractive to qualified professionals.

SUBEB Chairman, Hon. Samuel Mariere, noted that the policy could help retain experienced teachers while attracting more graduates into the state’s basic education system.

Representatives of the NUT, ALGON and the Local Government Service Commission welcomed the move, expressing optimism that it would boost teacher morale and contribute to improved learning outcomes in public primary schools across Delta State.
