19-Year-Old Delta Woman Rescued After Alleged Trafficking Ordeal in Ivory Coast

A 19-year-old Delta State indigene, identified as Annabel, has safely returned home after she was allegedly trafficked to Côte d’Ivoire and abandoned following an ordeal that has renewed concerns over cross-border human trafficking.

Annabel’s return comes months after reports emerged that she had been lured out of Nigeria with promises of better opportunities before allegedly being abandoned in the neighbouring West African country. Her case adds to growing concerns over the activities of trafficking syndicates targeting young Nigerian women with false promises of jobs abroad.

Her rescue has been welcomed by family members, community leaders and anti-trafficking advocates, who described her safe return as a positive outcome despite the traumatic experience she endured.

Special recognition has also been given to Hon. Stella Okotete for her reported role and sustained efforts in facilitating Annabel’s safe return to Delta State.

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of human trafficking and the need for stronger public awareness, cross-border cooperation and sustained action against criminal networks exploiting vulnerable young Nigerians.
