Omo-Agege Tasks Security Agencies to Probe Political Attacks in Delta

Former Deputy Senate President and Senatorial candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Coalition, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has called on security agencies to investigate two recent incidents of political violence in Delta State, warning that they could threaten the credibility of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement on Wednesday, Special Adviser on Strategy and Communications to Omo-Agege, Godwin Anaughe, urged the Inspector-General of Police, the Delta State Commissioner of Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to probe the attack on the NDC governorship candidate, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, in Agholokpe, as well as the “violently broken up” All Progressives Congress (APC) Delta Central stakeholders’ meeting at the PTI Conference Centre, Effurun.

According to him, Mr. Temple Mudi, a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, was attacked with stones, machetes and bottles at the APC meeting venue.

Anaughe alleged that the incidents were linked and claimed his camp had “credible intelligence” of plans to unleash violence and intimidate opposition strongholds ahead of the 2027 elections.

He also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), civil society organisations and the international community to closely monitor political developments in Delta State, insisting that all political actors should embrace peaceful, issue-based campaigns.

While the Delta State Government has ordered the arrest of the perpetrators at the Effurun incident, the party has denied the incident occurred during its stakeholders’ meeting.
